American Idol David Cook Announces Tour Plans"The Declaration Tour - 2009" Will Kick Off in February
The latest winner of "American Idol" will perform live on "Good Morning America" February 12, as a precursor to the start of his first solo tour.
The season seven winner of "American Idol" is embarking on his first headlining tour, which will officially kick off February 13 in Tallahassee, FL. "I'm more excited to hop on the road and support this record," David Cook said in a press release on his official website. Cook and his band, who just returned from playing overseas at a USO tour, will be playing at various college campuses throughout the United States, starting out on the East Coast. "There's something inherently nostalgic about playing college shows," Cook said of his upcoming tour. It's no surprise that Cook finds college tours nostalgic, he fronted the band, Axium with a couple friends from high school throughout college. Cook also played guitar in the band, Midwest Kings with two of his current band members, Andy Skib and Neal Tiemann. American Idol BeginningsCook won the heart of "American Idol" fans after his Top 16 performance of the Lionel Richie classic, "Hello". After he made the Top 12 in the competition, Cook was becoming known for doing covers of previously covered songs. The week he performed Chris Cornell's version of the Michael Jackson hit, "Billie Jean", Cook won a rave review from Idol's toughest judge to please, Simon Cowell. "It could have either been insane or amazing, and I have to tell you, it was amazing," Cowell told Cook after the performance. Cowell seemed to find a favorite in Cook, which is what he told to CNN's Larry King during the competition. "This is the guy I would actually choose to listen to on a personal level. Forget what I think about the business. I like this guy. I think he's very good." Cook was crowned the seventh winner of American Idol after 56 million votes were cast. Cook won the title over now 18-year-old, David Archuleta by a margin of 12 million votes. Cook's coronation song, the Reggie Hamm-penned, "The Time of My Life" is certified platinum. The song also reached number one on the radio Adult Contemporary charts. David Cook, the recordCook's self-titled, debut record was released this past November and debuted on the Billboard charts at number three.
