Coldplay Announce UK Stadium Dates For 2009Brit Rockers Confirm Stadium Shows in Manchester, Glasgow and London
Hot on the heels of the newly released Prospekt's March EP and amid rumours of a shock split, Coldplay reassure fans with news of three new major show dates.
What a week for Coldplay. With the much debated Prospekt’s March EP released, a follow up to the No. 1 album Viva La Vida, and rumours of a proposed split assuaged, Chris Martin announced this morning that the band will play at not just one, but three major stadium shows in the UK. In a telephone call to the major UK radio station, BBC’s Radio 1, Martin cemented Coldplay’s plans for a return to UK for some major stadium concerts in their native Britain. Amidst the furious publicity of the EP release, the band, whose hits include ‘Clocks’, ‘The Scientist’, ‘Trouble’ and more recently ‘Lost’ and ‘Violet Hill’, are currently touring in North America but are set to return to the UK at the end of the month for a 10 date series of shows, including London’s O2 Arena in December. Venues ConfirmedHaving ruled out a Knebworth show, favoured by the 'mighty' Oasis, due to scheduling conflicts, the band have confirmed that they will play shows in Manchester, Glasgow and London next September, and they will be accompanied for the whole trio by US rapper and hip hop star Jay-Z who features on the new version of single ‘Lost’ from the Prospekt’s March EP. The dates are as follows:
Coldplay in the News HeadlinesIn a triumph even by PR standards, the British rockers have soared this year on the waves of the success of Viva La Vida, a spectacular world tour and the subsequent release of the edgier, more experimental Prospekt’s March EP, released in the UK and the US today. Martin also hit the headlines last week when he suggested in a press interview that the band would not continue for much longer, claiming that none of the group liked the idea of being ageing rockers and would prefer to go out on top. The report has since vanished from the nme.com and has been played down by the Q & A service, The Oracle, on coldplay.com, although rumours continue to abound on the internet. The Prospekt’s March EP, though well-received so far, has been a target of cynical accusations of stringing out the success of Viva La Vida. Fans disagree, with the EP being heralded as a welcome, upbeat and generally racier extension of the bestselling album. These three giant dates will reassure fans concerned about a potential split, and sign off the band’s most successful touring period to date, ahead of the release of a fifth studio album scheduled for release in Winter 2009. Tickets for all three dates go on sale on Friday 28th November at 9.30am. Related ArticlesColdplay - Rumours of a Split? Coldplay - Prospekt's March Review
