After 17 years of absence, George Michael gives touring North America “One More Try”.
This week, the ex-Wham front man announced that his upcoming "25 LIVE" tour kicks off in San Diego on June 17. The tour winds across the United States and Canada in 21 major cities to conclude his return to the stage after a successful European trek.
Last year George Michael performed 80 sold out shows in 12 European countries to over one million fans in support of his latest greatest hits package Twenty Five.
To coincide with his tour, George Michael releases Twenty Five in the United States on April 1. The new collection of hits plus new songs covers his entire career from his glory days with Wham to his immensely successful solo career that began with Faith in 1987.
That album alone produced four number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 including "Father Figure", "One More Try" and "Monkey", as well as the title cut.
His last number one hit in the US was the unforgettable duet with Elton John “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”, recorded during his last tour in 1991.
With the release of his last album of new material, Patience, in 2004, Michael began what has been a slow comeback in the United States with his 1998 arrest continuing to overshadow his creative output.
Michael granted Oprah an interview in 2004, his first in over a decade, where he openly discussed but also closed the chapter on his arrests and sexual orientation. Four years later, George Michael seems ready to come back with force.
In January he began a series of cameos on the new ABC drama “Eli Stone” where he plays a guardian angel to star Johnny Lee Miller. Michael plays himself in the March 27 episode.
Now with the release of a new career retrospective and his 21 city "25 LIVE" tour, Michael may regain his “Faith” in America.
Tickets for the George Michael "25 LIVE" tour go on sale April 6, 2008.
Other 80s acts with new albums in April include Madonna and Kylie Minogue.
