The biggest shock since the public found out about singer Rihanna being allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend, singer Chris Brown, was the news of their reunion.

The news of Rihanna (real name: Robyn Rihanna Fenty) reuniting with Chris Brownhas left many of her fans wondering how she could take him back.

After being allegedly assaulted by Brown, early February 8 before the Grammy Awards were to take place in Los Angeles, CA, Rihanna retreated to her homeland of Barbados to be with her family during the tumultuous time.

Brown turned himself over to the Los Angeles Police Department and was released after posting his $50,000 bail.

He said, she said

On Sunday, February 15, Brown released his long-awaited statement on the matter.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

Friday, February 20, Rihanna's camp also addressed the matter.

"At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown. She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time."

The TMZ photo

TMZ.com released a photo of Rihanna, which was reportedly the result of being leaked from a source within the LAPD offices.

According to the March 9 issue of US Weekly, LAPD had not acknowledged if the photo of Rihanna was official. However, they did state that they had started, "an immediate internal investigation."

Why Rihanna would go back to Chris Brown

Rihanna seems to be a pretty self-sufficient, independent woman. However, many people have wondered why she would return to Brown so soon.

Psychologist and contributer to CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, Dr. Gail Saltz wrote the following in the blog post, Why Rihanna would go back to Chris Brown.

"The truth is that this is really quite typical for the pattern of abuse. One partner (and the abuser can be a woman) maintains power over the other by isolating them, hurting them emotionally and physically, belittling them and convincing them that the abuser is the center of their world and the only one who will love them. The victim loses self esteem and feels emotionally dependent on their abuser."

What the future holds for the couple

According to various media outlets this week, it came out that Rihanna told the LAPD that this was not the first time Brown had hurt her.

According to Eonline.com, Rihanna told them that "the violence was escalating and getting worse."

On March 5, Brown was charged with two felonies. He was charged with assault, as well as being charged with making criminal threats.

He has yet to enter a plea.

If convicted, Brown could face up to nine years in prison on the criminal threats charge alone.

Yet, the bigger question still remains: Will Rihanna stand by her man if he's found guilty of the charges?
