U2 released their new single today, "Get On Your Boots," the first from their new album No Line on the Horizon - due out on Mercy/Universal Records in early March.

With signature U2 flair and vocals only lead singer Bono can seemingly manage, the track is destined to be an instant hit – as well as a testament to the staying power of the infamous rock band. And, thanks to a special Internet promotion, fans can listen to the single now, online.

“Get On Your Boots” – Review of the Single Track

U2 is one of the few bands that manages to stay current with music trends (leaning towards pop, techno, and hip-hop) while also staying distinctly unique. One listen to their new single and any listener could recognize the signature U2 sound: a driving, catchy guitar riff; classic rock stylings with new electronic beats mixed in; and, of course, Bono’s signature vocals.

It may take a few listens before listeners are entirely hooked on the song; however, it may have something to do with the fact that previous singles from the past few albums have been hit or miss (take “Vertigo” from How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, for just one example) – despite the band’s continued success in album and concert sales. But just wait until the chorus (“Sexy boots, yeah / Get on your sexy boots, yeah”) – and then give the entire song another listen.

After listening a few times, listeners will probably find that “Get On Your Boots” is just as catchy and memorable as other U2 mega-hits since the dawn of the new millennium – like “Beautiful Day,” “Walk On,” and “Elevation” - and will likely be written down as, if not one of the best greatest post-1990 hits, than at least one of the catchiest.

It probably goes without saying that U2 is known for their innovative, intelligent, and often rabble-rousing lyrics, as well. Here in “Get On Your Boots,” it’s clear that – while the band is quite obviously having fun with performing the track – Bono and the band’s political sensibilities are still very much intact:

If someone’s into blowing up

We’re into growing up

Women are the future

All the big revelations

I’ve gotta submarine, you’ve got gasoline

I don’t wanna talk about wars between nations

Not right now

Sexy boots yeah (no no no)

Get on your boots yeah (Not right now)

Foxy boots

You don’t know how beautiful

You are

You don’t know

You get it do you

You don’t know

How beautiful you are

Together, the sound and the lyrics of “Get Your Boots On” marks a single that is decidedly U2: political, fun, and bold.
